0314 - 6-key conical piccolo by Rudall, Carte & Co #1059

This instrument, completed in September 1874, was bought in from an outside contractor, Wylde. Henry Wylde senior was by this point 67 years old and had two of his sons, William and James, then in their early 30s, working with him at the family home, 108 Kennington Road, Lambeth. His oldest son, also Henry Wylde, had by this point established his own separate flute making business, so it's unclear which part of the family would have been responsible for this piccolo. Although a 'cheap' model with nickel silver keys and ferrules, it plays easily and with remarkably good tuning.
