0809 - 8-key conical flute by Matthias Christian Brustgrün I
Brustgrun was one of a number of makers working in Flensburg at the beginning of the nineteenth century whose work has strong links to other makers in Hamburg but also similarities with that of Copenhagen makers at the time. This flute is boxwood and ivory with keys which may be brass but also have a nickel silver sheen. I have yet to identify the metal. It came in the heaviest case I've ever seen for a flute, hewn out of solid mahogany with a domed lid, and designed to ensure that nothing ever damaged the instrument inside. It worked - the flute is in good condition.
